Fun fact about the victory roll

The first use of the term “victory roll” was by fighter pilots. It was a spin maneuver they might do after a successful mission. Essentially it was a victory dance for a fighter pilots

With your curling iron, you will make your curls in the direction you want your victory roll to go. This will help with the direction of the roll. When you tease evil tease the base of the hair, this will allow your bobby pins to secure the victory roll in place.Using your teasing brush or ratel comb, you can smooth the hair into the roll This will help with flyaways in shape. Do not get frustrated as this might take you a few times to get the hang of.Also remember not all of them are gonna let the same depending on hair type hair texture.  1950s Hairstyles

If you thought that retro look was too hard to achieve, think again: 1950s hairstyles can be fairly simple. By following a few simple styling tricks, you can get the cute, retro hairstyle of your dreams.

 1950s Hairstyles

If you thought that retro look was too hard to achieve, think again: 1950s hairstyles can be fairly simple. By following a few simple styling tricks, you can get the cute, retro hairstyle of your dreams.

  • It's all about the volume. Start with a volumizing or curl-enhancing shampoo and conditioner. You need your hair to stay big – and it all starts with the right hair products.
  • The deep part. A hallmark of 1950s styles is the deep side part. Use your eyebrow as a guide to determine where to put your part. You want it to be anywhere between the arch and the end of your eyebrow, depending on how deep you want it.
  • Add some volume with natural hair extensions. Retro styles often work best if you have some volume, so try natural hair extensions  if your hair is fine or short. Natural hair extensions can be styled just like the hair on your head, so they work better for 1950s hairstyles than their synthetic counterparts.
  • Second time's the charm. Most 1950s hairstyles work best if you wait until your hair is slightly dirty. It will be better able to hold curls and backcombing. Freshly washed hair doesn't stay put quite as well as slightly dirty hair. If you're concerned about grease, grab some dry shampoo (or baby powder – a celebrity hair stylist secret).
  • There's more than one way to get a curl. You can get soft retro curls in multiple ways, from pin curls to hot rollers. One easy way to get gorgeous curls is to use a 1” curling iron. Separate your hair into small sections and curl each one, twisting your wrist as you go. Finger comb (rather than brush) your hair to leave the curls intact.
  • Go for height. 1950s hairstyles are known for being voluminous, so backcomb your hair to get some height. Backcomb the hair at the crown of your head, securing the hair in place with bobby pins if necessary.

1950s hairstyles don't have to be tricky to pull off. You can do them at home with backcombing, a curling iron and some patience. So don't wait – get that cute retro look today! Coming Soon

When did the 1950s Pastel Hair Trend Start?

When did the 1950s Pastel Hair Trend Start?

Colorful hair like pastels has a long history. Various moments in the last 300 years have seen adventurous people decorating their hair with unnatural hair colors through toning, dying, and wigs. In the 18th century, women (and men alike) used pastel tinted powder on their wigs.

The roots of the 1950s pastel hair trend can be traced back to approximately 1954, with reports surfacing of women sporting pink-tinted hair.

It wasn’t just hairstylists wearing this color trend. I share the stories of everyday women who colored their hair pastel in my YouTube video here.

This joyful hair color’s popularity continued into the early 1960s. As trends in color moved away from pastels and into the more vibrant hues of the mid-1960s, so did the trend of pastel hair color move out too.

These pastel hair colors were often achieved through toners and rinses and many of hair color brands in the 1950s had these toners and toning rinses. The lighter shades for blonde and grey often included pale blues and violets to counteract yellow. If you left these toners on too long, you could achieve blue or lavender hair.

With the popularity of color at this time, women and their hairstylists used this overtoning process to get pastel haircolors on purpose. It was in the mid and late 1950s, that some color brands started offering more color tone options than others. The brand that offered the most color options here in the US was Roux.

Roux’s line of Fanci-Tone permanent colors and Fanci-full Rinses had the largest color range. Thanks to the swatch books from some of these brands, we can see what these pastel hair colors looked like.

The names for these toning pastels included Shy Violet, Barely Pink, Silver Mint, Just Peachy, or Lazy Lilac. In the tones for grey hair and blonde toning to eliminate yellow, Roux carried True Steel, Silver Lining, Platinum Plus, Moon Shadow, Demure Mist, and White Minx.
